Military Airstrikes Neutralize Bandit Warlords in Zamfara State Nigeria

The Nigerian Air Force has launched fresh airstrikes against bandit groups in Zamfara State, leading to the reported killing of several notorious warlords in Sububu Forest.

The operation, which took place on Monday afternoon, was carried out after intelligence units identified a large gathering of high-ranking bandit commanders inside the forest. Fighter jets were immediately deployed to the location.

According to preliminary reports, the airstrikes started at about 4:30 pm and targeted heavily fortified bunkers where the criminals were hiding. The bombardment destroyed the camp and caused massive casualties among the bandit leadership. Security sources said battle damage assessment is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, ground troops under Operation Hadarin Daji have advanced into the forest to secure the area. The soldiers are clearing the perimeter and searching for any remaining pockets of resistance. Military medics are also moving with the troops to provide emergency care if hostages are found.

Intelligence reports indicate that dozens of kidnapped civilians may have been held inside the enclave. Rescuing them remains a top priority for the advancing troops, who are now combing through the ruins for survivors.

Sububu Forest has for years served as a major hideout for bandit groups operating in the North-West. The dense vegetation and difficult terrain make it hard for standard patrol vehicles to enter, which allows criminals to hide weapons and plan attacks without being easily detected.

Zamfara State has suffered heavily from banditry in recent years. Armed groups have continued to terrorize farming communities, forcing many residents to abandon their homes and farmlands. The crisis has disrupted farming activities and affected food supply, while thousands of displaced persons now live in government camps.

The federal government has in recent months intensified military operations across the region to tackle insecurity. This includes coordinated air and ground offensives targeting forest camps used by bandits. Authorities have also called on residents to support security agencies with timely information about suspicious movements.

Security experts believe that sustaining intelligence gathering and involving local hunters who understand the forest terrain will help weaken criminal networks. They also stress the need to cut off the flow of illegal arms fueling the violence.

Residents in Zamfara have expressed hope that the latest operation will bring some relief and allow them to return to normal life. The military has assured that operations will continue until peace is fully restored in the area.
