Police Rescue 11 Victims, Arrest 19 Suspects Following Deadly Dan-Indo Village Attack

Police in Kebbi State have rescued 11 kidnapped victims and arrested 19 suspects after a deadly attack on Dan-Indo village.

According to Donjoe Media findings, the attack on Dan-Indo village in Fakai Local Government Area happened on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Suspected Lakurawa terrorists stormed the village at night and killed nine residents. The attack left the whole community in shock. People are still trying to make sense of what happened that night.

The gunmen did not just kill. They opened fire on people running from their homes. They set houses on fire. They burnt two vehicles and several motorcycles belonging to farmers. For a community that lives off farming, that damage hit hard.

After the attack, the Kebbi State Police Command moved fast. The Commissioner of Police ordered a manhunt for the gang behind the killings. Intelligence operatives tracked the movements of the fleeing criminals. They followed their phone signals. That work led them to forest camps where hostages were being kept.

Strike teams surrounded the hideouts. They moved in. The kidnappers were caught off guard. In the operation that followed, 11 hostages were freed. They had been beaten and kept in poor condition. Police medics checked them first, then took them to hospital for treatment. No ransom was paid.

The same sweep led to the arrest of 19 suspects. Police believe they are linked directly to the Dan-Indo attack. They are now being interrogated. Investigators want to know who gave the orders, who carried the guns, and where the rest of the gang is hiding. The arrests could open up the wider network operating around Fakai.

Officers also recovered weapons from the suspects. They found firearms used in the attack, stolen valuables, and cash taken from residents. Ballistics experts will examine the weapons to trace where they came from.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, announced the breakthrough on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, as part of nationwide operations carried out between October 29 and 31, 2026. He praised the tactical teams for their courage. He said all 19 suspects will face prosecution. He added that the command will not let up on gangs terrorising rural communities.

Fakai has been a difficult area for security forces. The forests are thick. The terrain is rough. Criminal gangs use the forests to move weapons and hide victims. That makes patrols hard and slow. It also makes it easy for gangs to disappear after an attack.

For farmers in Dan-Indo, the pain is not just about the killings. Many have left their farms. Some have fled to other towns. When farms are abandoned, food becomes scarce. Prices go up in the market. The attack has affected more than one village.

The Kebbi State government is working on relief for displaced persons. Emergency officials are providing shelter and medical supplies to those who fled Dan-Indo. The governor has also been in talks with federal security commanders for more troops in vulnerable areas.

Police are asking residents to help. If anyone sees a stranger with a fresh gunshot wound seeking treatment, they should report it. If anyone notices strange movement in the bush, they should speak up. That kind of information has helped in this operation, and police say it can help again.

The road ahead is still long. Houses need to be rebuilt. Burnt vehicles need replacement. Young people in the area need jobs so they are not drawn into criminal gangs. Security alone will not solve it, but the rescue of 11 people is a start.

For now, the freed victims are with their families. The suspects are in custody. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
