FG ₦50k: How To Check If You Are Eligible

The Federal Government has started paying ₦50,000 to selected vulnerable Nigerians under a new intervention called the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).

The programme was announced on October 30, 2026, by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro.

Many Nigerians are now asking the same question: How do I know if I am eligible?

Here is what we have verified so far.

What Is The FG ₦50k?

NERSI is a Federal Government cash intervention designed to provide financial support to poor and vulnerable households struggling with rising living costs.

The payment is a grant, not a loan. Beneficiaries are not required to repay it.

The Minister said eligible beneficiaries would receive ₦50,000 to help meet essential needs and cushion the effects of rising living costs.

You do not need to apply.

According to the Federal Government, beneficiaries are selected from:

  • Verified national identity records
  • The National Social Register

The programme targets vulnerable households across Nigeria.

Payments are being made in batches. If your status shows “NOT SELECTED”, it does not automatically mean you will never be selected. You may be in a later batch.

How To Check If You Are Eligible

The Federal Government partnered with five licensed digital financial service providers to deliver payments securely.

  • OPay: _955_20#

If you are selected, you will receive an SMS notification asking for consent before the funds are transferred to your bank account or mobile wallet.

You must give consent and activate your designated mobile wallet before receiving payment.

OPay has explained that eligible customers will see a pop-up notification on their OPay app homepage.

“Kindly click on the pop-up to proceed with the next steps,” OPay said.

“Customers who are unable to see the feature on the app are not eligible for it.”

OPay also warned that it will never ask for your PIN or OTP to process a NERSI relief payment.

For MTN / MoMo Users

MTN subscribers can dial _671_0# from their registered phone numbers and follow the instructions to check their eligibility or payment status.

Beneficiaries without a MoMo wallet can dial *671# or download the official MoMo NG application to register.

Beware Of Scams

The Federal Government has repeatedly warned Nigerians not to pay anyone or submit an application to access the support.

Do not:

  • Pay any agent to enter your name
  • Share your PIN, OTP, BVN or password with anyone
  • Click on unverified WhatsApp links promising ₦50,000

A social media message advising MTN subscribers to send “YES” to an unofficial code has been circulating. MTN Nigeria has warned that the message did not originate from the company and should be disregarded.

If anyone approaches you demanding money for the grant, call the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

Is It Monthly Or One-Off?

The Minister announced the payment as a monthly support of ₦50,000, with the programme to be reviewed regularly.

However, the official NERSI portal currently describes it as a one-off payment in some of its guidance.

Donjoe Media will update this report when the Ministry clarifies the payment frequency.
